Description
This test aids in the diagnosis of acute and later stages of infection by B burgdorferi, the spirochete associated with Lyme disease. The test results provide an Index result for the presence of either IgG or IgM antibodies.
Lyme disease is a common vector-borne disease in the US caused by Borrelia burgdorferi which is transmitted through the bite of infected ticks. It may become a chronic disease involving the skin (rash), joints (arthritis), central nervous system, and heart. The disease responds to antibiotic therapy. In early disease, a negative result does not exclude the diagnosis and response may be blunted by antibiotics. No fasting is required.
