Description
The Thyroid Basic Profile measures Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Free thyroxine index (FTI), T3 uptake (THBR), Thyroxine (T4) and Thyroxine Binding Globulin.
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) is measured in blood in order to diagnose thyroid disorders and to monitor treatment of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. The TSH test is often chosen for evaluating thyroid function and/or symptoms of hyper- or hypothyroidism. TSH testing helps in diagnose a thyroid disorder in a person with symptoms , monitor thyroid replacement therapy in people with hypothyroidism , diagnose and monitor female infertility problems , help evaluate the function of the pituitary gland and screen adults for thyroid disorders.
Free Thyroxine Index (FTI) is a normalized measurement that remains relatively constant in healthy individuals and compensates for abnormal levels of binding proteins. Hyperthyroidism causes an increased FTI and hypothyroidism causes decreased values.
T3 Uptake is a thyroid function test for the diagnosis of hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, used with thyroxine (T4). T3 Uptake is an indirect measure of binding protein and the T3 uptake reflects available binding sites. T3 uptake is not a measurement of serum T3. It should never be used alone; rather, its usual application is use with thyroxine (T4).
T4 (Thyroxine) is a hormone produced by the thyroid gland. Thyroxine (T4) test is done in order to check the levels of this hormone in blood in order to help diagnose thyroid disorders such as hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. Also this test is done in order to check how well treatment for thyroid disease is working.
Thyroxine Binding Globulin (TBG) is measured in blood in order to check the amount of thyroid hormones. Thyroxine Binding Globulin testing helps in diagnose a thyroid disorder in a person with symptoms , monitor thyroid replacement therapy in people with hypothyroidism , diagnose and monitor female infertility problems , help evaluate the function of the pituitary gland and screen adults for thyroid disorders.
